Voices from our colleagues
International Women's Day, traditionally recognized on March 8, is an important reminder of how we can continue to pave the way in recognizing the success, achievements and value that women deliver. Here we share a collection of career reflections from our women leaders and related insights from across our businesses in response to the 2022 global theme "Break the Bias."
We Need To Dare!

From Zulma Suarez, CEO of Carpenter Marsh Fac in Bogotá, Colombia:

Around the world, women continue to face gender-based barriers professionally, and that change requires time and a deep social transformation. It is also a fact that some of these barriers, biases or paradigms are unconsciously created by women and have as a consequence placed a self-imposed cap on our professional growth over time.

On My Own Terms

From Prabashni Naidoo, Co-Head of Legal, Compliance & Public Affairs for Marsh Middle East & Africa:

I am the breadwinner by choice – and by design. It was a conscious decision made by my husband and me when we decided that we needed one parent to be more involved in raising our children. My husband has had to deal with many more questions about this, as it is not something that is common, at least in our circle.

Brave Spaces

From Kira Kimball (She/Her), Chief DEI Officer at Marsh McLennan Agency:

“We need your beauty for this meeting.” The words fell heavy like a sucker punch to the gut. I lost my breath and couldn’t speak. Instantly my self-confidence plummeted, and I couldn’t feel any smaller than I felt at that moment.

Breaking Bias

From Shreena Ghumra, the Regional Controller for Marsh McLennan Middle East & Africa:

Breaking the bias has been a consistent theme in my life. I am a British Asian female who spent the first 12 years of my career in white male dominant industries, and managed to climb the corporate ladder all the way to Board level.

Ready to Pivot

From Eima Azim, SVP Mercer Marsh Benefits at Marsh India:

Through our employee groups, I’ve been able to challenge assumptions about women in the workplace. Marsh McLennan has cultivated a place for me to join conversations that matter so that all colleagues feel they have a voice at the table.
